When a commercial dispute claim is filed at the County Court, it will be allocated to either the Multi Track or the Fast Track system.

A case will be allocated to the Fast Track system, if it is a simple and low value claim.

The Mulit Track system, on the other hand, is suitable for all claims above £15,000, and it is therefore used for most commercial claims. However, there are other factors that the Court takes into account when allocating any particular case to the track system. Some of the factors include:

  • the complexity of the case
  • the number of parties
  • the value of the counterclaim (if there is one)
  • the amount of oral evidence to be produced
  • the nature of the remedy to be sought
