Following the large-scale data breach that affected thousands of TalkTalk customers in October, a number of arrests have been made in connection with the hack.
Today, a fifth person has been arrested and bailed until a date in March 2016. This man in particular has been arrested on suspicion of blackmail which differs from those previously arrested.
The four others arrested in connection with the breach, were done so in relation to offences under the Computer Misuse Act. These include a 15 year old from County Antrim and two 16 year olds from London and Norwich.
The investigation as a whole is being lead by the Metropolitan Police Service’s Cyber Crime Unit with assistance given by Southern Wales Regional Organised Crime Unit in regards to the recent arrest.
As the investigations continue, TalkTalk still urge customers to be careful with their data but state that fewer customers have been affected than previously feared. They believe that almost 157,000 customers have had their personal details accessed which included incomplete credit or debit card details.
It seems that investigations will continue past the New Year with bail dates being set for March 2016. Therefore it will be a while before any affected customers see a conclusion to the saga.
