Further to my recent article on how Amazon had been dealt a blow in the US over having to narrow its 'One-Click' system. Amazon have now suffered a further setback in Europe.

The European Patent Office (EPO) has revoked Amazons patent for the gift ordering system. According to the EPO "One of the opposition’s main arguments against the patent – among others – was that it fell short of meeting the criteria of providing an 'inventive step', as defined in Article 56 of the European Patent Convention (EPC)," they went on "On these grounds, the three opposing parties asked for the patent to be revoked.".

The newly rejected patent allowed a customer to buy a gift for a person knowing only their email address, Amazon would then email the gift recipient for details of their physical address.
