Johnny Depp is suing the Sun for defamation

Johnny Depp needs no introduction, the American actor, producer and musician has won the Golden Globe Award and been nominated for three Academy Awards, and now, another achievement – suing the Sun newspaper.

The actor is allegedly suing the Sun newspaper for defamation following the newspaper’s decision to publish a story claiming the actor is a “wife-beater” and that also criticised JK Rowling.

It has been reported that he claim was filed last Friday (02 June 2018) and the Sun, the News Group Newspapers Limited and columnist Dan Wootton are all named defendants.

It is reported that Wootton wrote the article, titled: How can J.K. Rowling be ‘genuinely happy’ casting wife-beater Johnny Depp in the new Fantastic Beasts film?.

Previously Depp has denied the claims that he physically abused is ex – Amber Heard. It is reported that Depp is claiming £200,000 plus £10,582 in legal fees.
