Damages awarded against Microsoft

It has been reported that Microsoft has been ordered to pay a Canadian Software company $290.00 million dollars for patent infringement.

The case centred around the use of certain technology in Microsoft's software Word 2003 - 2007 relating to its XML feature. Microsoft has reportedly been barred by the US Court of Appeals from selling the software after 11 January 2010 and ordered to pay damages.

It is also reported that Microsoft will remove the feature and sell a new version of the software.
