Illegal downloading cost almost 9billion GBP in revenue across Europe in 2008, enough to finance 185,000 jobs according to a report by the International Chamber of Commerce, released last week.
According to the International Chamber of Commerce, digital piracy of music, films and TV programmes led to retail losses of 1.4 billion GBP in 2008. It was reported that 1.2million jobs and 215billion GBP could be lost in Europe by 2015.
Agnete Haaland, president of the Internation actors federation said: "Piracy is killing the industry...we need to change our attitudes towards illegal downloading and recognise that it is theft".
However, Andrew Robinson of Pirate Party UK, which wants to legalise non-commerical file-sharing said of the report "this is the type of thing that is used to bamboozle politicians."
